Furuheim Lodge is a private holiday accommodation in Vrådal, Norway, consisting of two lodges in the Telemark province. How many people can stay?

The Store Lodge accommodates 2 to 8 people and has three bedrooms. The Lille Lodge accommodates 2 to 4 people. Booking both lodges together? Then there is room for a group of up to 12 people — ideal for families or groups of friends who want to holiday together but still have their own space.

 

Is there a sauna?
Yes, both lodges have their own private sauna. The Store Lodge has a freestanding sauna house with a fantastic view of the lake and mountains — perfect for warming up after a day out in nature. The Lille Lodge has a sauna inside the lodge itself, convenient and directly accessible from the living area.

 

Are dogs welcome?
Dogs are very welcome in the Lille Lodge. The surroundings of Vrådal are ideal for dog owners: extensive walking trails through forest and nature start directly from the lodge. Pets are not allowed in the Store Lodge.

 

Is the lodge wheelchair accessible?
The Lille Lodge is fully wheelchair accessible. The lodge is single-storey and step-free, with wide doorways, underfloor heating and an accessible bathroom. The parking space directly next to the lodge is also easily accessible, as is the entrance via a wooden ramp. The Store Lodge is not suitable for wheelchair users due to the mezzanine level and stairs.

 

Is Furuheim Lodge suitable for families with young children?
Yes. The Store Lodge offers more than enough space for a family. The surroundings are safe and child-friendly, with opportunities for swimming, cycling and hiking in summer, and sledging and skiing in winter. The Lille Lodge is also fully single-storey, making it extra practical for families with young children or a pushchair.

 

How far is it from Oslo to Vrådal?
Vrådal is approximately 2.5 hours' drive from Oslo. Oslo is a vibrant city with plenty to see and do. Visit the Vigeland Park, the Viking Ship Museum, the Opera Bar by the waterfront or the popular Grünerløkka neighbourhood. Oslo makes a wonderful addition to your stay in the nature of Vrådal — on the way there or on the way back.

 

How do I travel to Furuheim Lodge by car?
From the Netherlands or Belgium, you drive via Denmark or Germany to the ferry:

  • Via Denmark: ferry from Hirtshals to Kristiansand (Color Line or Fjord Line, approx. 3-4 hours sailing). From Kristiansand it is another approx. 2 hours' drive to Vrådal. This is the shortest and most direct route.

  • Via Germany: ferry from Kiel to Oslo (Color Line, approx. 20 hours sailing — ideal as an overnight ferry). From Oslo it is another approx. 2.5 hours' drive to Vrådal.

Both routes can easily be combined with a stopover in Denmark or Germany.

 

How do I fly to Vrådal?
The nearest airports are Kristiansand Airport Kjevik (approx. 2 hours' drive) and Sandefjord Airport Torp. You can also fly into Oslo Airport Gardermoen — both approximately 2.5 to 3.5 hours from Vrådal. At all airports you can easily book a hire car online in advance.

 

What is there to do in summer?
The area around Vrådal offers a wide range of activities: hiking through forests and along Lake Nisser, cycling and mountain biking on varied routes, stand-up paddleboarding and swimming in the lake, fishing and boat trips on Lake Nisser and along the Telemark Canal, and golf at the 9-hole golf course just 15 minutes' drive from the lodges. For those who prefer a slower pace: enjoy the terrace, the barbecue and the nature right on your doorstep.

 

Can I fish in Lake Nisser?
Yes, Lake Nisser is a popular fishing spot. The lake is the largest in Telemark, 35 km long and in some places more than 230 metres deep. Fish species include brown trout, whitefish, perch, stickleback and Arctic char. Don't forget to arrange a Norwegian fishing licence before you leave — it is required for freshwater fishing in Norway.

 

What is there to do in winter?
Vrådal is an excellent winter destination. Nearby is Vrådal Alpinsenter with ski slopes for all levels. There are also extensive cross-country skiing and snowshoeing routes in the immediate area. After a day outdoors, there is nothing better than warming up in the private sauna or by the wood-burning stove in the lodge.

What is the weather like in Vrådal?

Vrådal is located in the inland region of Telemark, southern Norway, and has a subarctic continental climate with distinct seasons and large temperature differences. Summers are very pleasant with plenty of sunshine (July peaks at 20°C during the day), while winters are cold with averages of -1°C during the day and -8°C at night in February.

Snow falls on average from November through April. Snowfall is heaviest from December to March, and Vrådal is well known as a popular ski destination (Vrådal Panorama). Total annual snowfall amounts to around 200+ cm.
